Choose software by testing a real workflow.
A long feature list does not tell you how a tool will work for your team. Start with the deliverable, then test the steps required to produce it using a representative job.
Separate the requirements
Write down what the software must do and what another system already handles.
- Site photos, notes and repeat readings.
- Report preparation and sharing.
- Estimating, scheduling, invoicing or CRM, if needed.
- Required integrations and data-export formats.
Test with the people who will use it
Ask a technician to record the job, a second person to continue it, and the office to prepare the report. Use the same evidence in each product so the comparison is fair.
- Test the actual phones and tablets your team uses.
- Check connection requirements and what happens when an upload fails.
- Review user permissions and sharing controls.
- Open the final exported report on another device.
Check the commercial detail
Confirm currency, billing term, included users, job limits, optional modules and what happens when a subscription ends. Ask for an explicit demonstration or written answer for any essential requirement.
