A practical drying log checklist.
A drying log should help another person follow the sequence of observations and work. This checklist is about record quality; it does not prescribe drying targets, equipment sizing or treatment.
Before recording a new visit
Open the correct job and review the previous entry. Keep the same room and point names so the next set of observations can be understood in context.
- Confirm job and property identifiers.
- Record the visit date and the person attending.
- Review outstanding observations and access restrictions.
At the measurement point
Capture enough context to interpret the value later. Use notes where a structured field does not capture an important limitation.
- Identify the room, material and measurement location.
- Record the reading with its units or scale and relevant meter context.
- Record environmental observations and any change in method.
- Explain a missed or inaccessible location rather than silently omitting it.
Before completing the visit
Connect the observations to the work carried out. Check the record saved before relying on it for a handover.
- Note equipment or setup changes and the work performed.
- Add contextual photos where useful.
- State unresolved items for the next attendance.
- Review for inconsistent labels, dates or units.
